After Jesus was betrayed, arrested, humiliated with thirty-nine lashes, tortured and crucified, the Chief priests and Pharisee’s were still not satisfied. They went to Pontius Pilate the next day after the day of preparation (the Sabbath Day) to ask permission to secure and guard the tomb of Jesus. They told Pilate “we remember that while he was still alive, that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise again’ so give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal the body and tell the people that he has been raised from the dead. This last deception will be more than the first.” Pilate told them to go ahead and make the tomb as secure as they can (Matthew 27:62-66).
Why were the chief priests and Pharisees doing all these things? Jesus exposed their lifestyle to the people. They maintained their authority over the people by keeping them in ignorance and superstition. Jesus called them hypocrites. Also Jesus was becoming more popular with the people than they were. Is your lifestyle sealing the stone on the tomb of Jesus? Are you trying as much as you can to secure the tomb? Check your ways if you are. However, the devil can try to destroy the destiny God has for you but will not succeed because of the power of resurrection.
In Mark 16, Mary Magdalene in whom Jesus drove out demons, together with Mary the mother of James and Salomey were on their way early in the morning to the tomb of Jesus. They had spices to rub on the body of Jesus to preserve it. They discussed on the way how and who they can get to roll off the stone covering the tomb. Do we have these types of women in present-day Charismatic Churches? Mary Magdalene remembered how Jesus healed her from the demons that possessed her and wanted to preserve his body. Never forget whatever the lord has done for you. When they got to the tomb they saw that an Angel had rolled the stone away and sat on it waiting for them to arrive. He told them Jesus who they were looking for had risen and on his way ahead of them to Galillee. The women were asked to go and tell Peter and the other disciples. Jesus had risen on the third day as he had said. God is not a man that He should lie, has he said anything and did not do it? He said His son shall die and on the third day resurrect and he did. Where were the guards who were securing the tomb? God is the best authority to secure your life. The Angel of God became the securer of the tomb and waited to give the good news to the women who came with spices. Your life is secure with no other than God. You need the Angel of God to remove any rock that is preventing you from getting to your destiny. May the resurrection of Christ bring us the joy of our salvation?
